The Decentralized Frontier
Cryptocurrency markets operate 24/7/365. Unlike traditional equities, the velocity of capital in digital assets requires constant monitoring of cost basis and unrealized gains to manage risk effectively.
Performance Metrics
Profit or loss on paper for assets you still hold.
Actual gains or losses locked in after a sale or trade.
The percentage growth of your initial capital investment.
Managing Volatility
A 50% drop in asset price requires a 100% gain just to break even. Use this tool to set Take-Profit targets and Stop-Loss thresholds to protect your principal capital.
Trade Discipline
Always audit your trades inclusive of gas fees (on-chain) or exchange taker fees. High-frequency trading can significantly erode ROI if fees are not modeled into your cost basis.
How to Use This Crypto Calculator
Enter the amount of cryptocurrency (e.g. Bitcoin, Ethereum) or the fiat value (e.g. USD), and select the assets you want to convert between. The Crypto Calculator uses current or recent exchange rates to show equivalent value in the other currency or crypto. Use it to estimate portfolio value, convert prices, or compare holdings. Rates are typically delayed or indicative; for trading or tax reporting, use exchange or official data. Some tools also support fee and percentage gain calculations for simple P&L.
Select the base and quote (e.g. BTC/USD or ETH/EUR). If you enter a crypto amount, the tool shows the fiat equivalent; if you enter fiat, it shows how much crypto you could buy at that rate. Spreads and fees are not always included, so the result is an approximation. For exact execution prices, use your exchange or broker. This calculator does not execute trades.
When Crypto Calculations Help
Crypto prices are volatile; a calculator helps with quick conversions and rough valuation. For taxes, accounting, or legal purposes, use authoritative sources and professional advice. This tool is for informational use only and is not investment or tax advice. Past performance does not guarantee future results.
This calculator does not execute trades, hold custody of assets, or provide real-time order-book data. It uses indicative or delayed rates from one or more sources; your exchange may show a different price due to spread, liquidity, or timing. For tax reporting, use the cost basis and valuation method required by your jurisdiction. For investment decisions, do your own research and consider consulting a qualified advisor.
How the PnL and Cost Basis Are Computed
Cost basis is the total amount you paid for your crypto (quantity × price per unit, summed across purchases); average cost is total spent divided by total quantity. Unrealized PnL is (current price − average cost) × quantity for holdings you still own. Realized PnL is (sale price − cost basis) × quantity sold. ROI is ((current value − cost basis) / cost basis) × 100. If you entered amounts in fiat, the tool converts using the rate you provide or fetch. Fees (exchange, network, gas) can be added to cost basis to get a more accurate figure; not all calculators include them. For tax purposes, methods (FIFO, LIFO, specific identification) vary by jurisdiction.
When to Use This Calculator
Use it when you need a quick conversion between crypto and fiat, when you want to estimate portfolio value or PnL without logging into an exchange, or when you are planning a trade and want to see the effect of different prices. It is also useful for tax preparation to get a rough idea of gains or losses before consulting a professional. Do not use it for real-time execution; exchanges have different prices and spreads. For binding tax or legal figures, use exchange statements and qualified advice. This tool is for informational use only.
Tips for Crypto Tracking
Keep records of every purchase and sale (date, quantity, price, fees) for accurate cost basis and tax reporting. Include gas fees and exchange fees in your cost basis when the tool or your jurisdiction allows. For volatile assets, consider setting take-profit and stop-loss levels; a 50% drop requires a 100% gain to recover. Do not invest more than you can afford to lose; crypto is highly volatile. For tax purposes, methods (FIFO, LIFO, specific ID) can change your taxable gain; consult a tax professional. This calculator is for estimation only; use your exchange and accountant for official figures.
Limitations
Rates may be delayed or from a single source. Different exchanges have different prices; there is no single "market price." Withdrawal fees, network fees, and spread are not included. For tax or accounting, use the method required by your jurisdiction (e.g. cost basis, reporting date). This tool is for informational use only.
Disclaimer

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate crypto cost basis?
Multiply the number of coins purchased by the price you paid per coin. To get your average cost basis across multiple trades, sum the total dollar amount spent and divide by the total number of coins held.
Are crypto gains taxable?
In most jurisdictions, cryptocurrency is treated as property. Selling, trading, or spending crypto triggers a capital gains tax event. Keep detailed records of your entry and exit prices for tax reporting.
What is 'Slippage' in crypto?
Slippage is the difference between the expected price of a trade and the price at which the trade is actually executed. It is more common in markets with low liquidity or high volatility.
