What is TOEFL?
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is an English proficiency test. This test, accepted in more than 150 countries worldwide, is critical for candidates who want to study or work in English-speaking countries. TOEFL consists of Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing sections, and each section is scored 0-30.
TOEFL measures academic English proficiency and evaluates language skills necessary for university education. The test can be taken online (iBT) or on paper (PBT). The iBT format is more widely used and takes 4 hours. TOEFL scores are used for university applications, immigration applications, and job applications.
TOEFL Sections and Contents
The Reading section takes 60-80 minutes and consists of 36-56 questions. Academic texts are read and comprehension questions are answered. The Listening section takes 60-90 minutes and consists of 34-51 questions. Academic conversations and lectures are listened to. The Speaking section takes 20 minutes and includes 6 tasks. Candidates speak on specific topics and express their opinions. The Writing section takes 50 minutes and includes 2 tasks: one task involves reading and listening to text, and the other involves writing a composition.
